Why You Will Love This Recipe?

    • One-ingredient ONLY! All you need for this is chicken sausage.
    • Quick! An amazing meal in less than 20 minutes!
    • No Mess! The air fryer makes cleaning so easy!

    Ingredients Needed

    Fully Cooked Chicken Sausage

Chicken sausage can be found in the produce section of your local supermarkets. My favorite brands are Applegate chicken sausage and Sam’s Choice chicken sausage which I found at Wal-Mart and Drug Emporium. No matter what fully cooked brand you purchase, double check the label to make sure the carbs are under 5 grams per link.

    Low Carb Hot Dog Buns

I used Sola Buns which are available at Wal-Mart, Kroger, Drug Emporium, and Rouses.

    Low Carb Condiments

    Mustard, mayo, etc.

How to Cook Chicken Sausage in the Air Fryer.

    1. Place chicken sausage links in the Air Fryer Basket.

Yes! This recipe will work in all Air Fryers.

    Storage Tips?

Store cooked chicken sausage in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Cooked chicken sausage is perfect for keto lunch meal prep for the week.

    Can I Freeze This Recipe?

You can absolutely freeze this recipe! Make sure to store cooked chicken sausage in a freezer safe bag or container.

What Can I Do With This Recipe?

    • Quick, weekend lunch. Cooked chicken sausage in the air fryer is perfect for a quick lunch. Find a low carb bun (I used Sola) and top with various low carb condiments.
    • Serve with my Air Fryer Turnip Fries.

    FAQ.

    Is chicken sausage gluten free?

I wish I could say 100% yes, but the honest answer is to view the ingredients on the label. Applegate chicken sausage is gluten free, but always, always double check the ingredients on the label.

Are there carbs in chicken sausage?

Well, to be honest, yes and no. Plain chicken sausage (which I always recommend purchasing) virtually has zero carbs, however, food companies are slick and will add in sugar and various ingredients to up the carb count. Please make sure to read the label on the chicken sausage you purchase.

Can I use frozen chicken sausage in the air fryer?

Yes! Just make sure to run the sausage (while still in the package) under hot water for about 30 seconds so you can remove it from the package. I would follow the same directions as above, but you may need to cook for a minute or two longer.

    Are chicken sausages healthy?

You know me by now. The answer - read the label. If the chicken sausage is plain, it is a wonderful source of protein in the diet without any added sugar. Protein is important in any weight loss plan since it is found to have you eating LESS!  In a study published in Nutrition Metabolism, those who increased their protein intake to 30 percent of their diet ate 450 fewer calories a day and lost about 11 pounds over the 12-week study without doing anything else!

Can I use raw chicken sausage in this recipe?

This recipe is specifically for cooked chicken sausage. For raw, make sure the internal temperature for chicken sausage is at 165 degrees.

Do You Put Oil in An Air Fryer?

For this recipe, I do not use oil or oil spray. Oil in the air fryer is an interesting discussion. You can USE oil in air fryer recipes, but DO NOT pour oil in an air fryer basket. Look for high smoke point oil sprays for the air fryer. The best oil spray for air fryer is avocado oil since it’s smoke point is high and can handle the high temperature of the air fryer. You can use olive oil (I often use olive oil in the air fryer) if cooking at a slightly lower temperature 360 or less.
